Times are tough right now in the United States, even in a recovering post crisis economy. Many families are living on salaries that are much lower than before, or have had to adjust to living off one income whereas before there were two. However, as thing start to improve and people find they have a little bit of cash lining their pockets once more, they decide it's time to get back some of life's little luxuries again. For example, many people cancelled their subscriptions to things like magazines, internet and television service as unnecessary expenses when times were tough, but now with a little more breathing room they are ready to go back to having more home entertainment worked into the budget. Having a television service at home is a great way to get inexpensive entertainment like movies, shows, and sports, and necessary information like local and world news and weather. For many people starting over with a television service is a great opportunity to evaluate what they really want and need in a service. Many people, for instance, who were once cable TV customers are taking advantage of the chance to make the switch to satellite TV.
There are many motives behind making this switch, and each subscriber will have his or her own reasons, but the overall choices and quality of satellite TV is more appealing to the discerning customer who wants more for his or her money. Now, there are far more channels available in high definition, for example, than before when people were using cable pre-crisis. The excellent picture and sound quality is a real selling point for many people who want the best possible home entertainment for their money. Many people are also enticed by the number of channels, including movie channels offered by satellite TV, as well as many features that cable just can't match such as on demand programming, and pay per view services.
In the past, many people went with cable because they were worried about factors which just don't apply to satellite TV anymore. A prime example is the size of the dish. Once a contraption that took up a fair part of the lawn, today the actual dish is small and compact, and can easily be placed up and off the ground so as to maximize space on the lawn while still having a top television service. Another concern was the fact that local news channels weren't available, meaning the subscriber missed out on what was happening in his or her own community. Today, local channels are available with satellite TV meaning there's nothing to be missed out on. Finally, a more recent concern has been that there is no DVR service available, and that only cable customers could use this convenience, but that simply isn't true! Today it's possible to have DVR and satellite service, meaning you can easily record all your favorite programming while you're away for the day, out of town, or simply busy doing or watching something else- and with hundreds of top quality channels sometimes it can be hard to choose just one great program to watch at a time!

If going back to a television service, consider directv. If you're still on the fence, why not go online to compare cable companies and satellite companies for yourself!
