This is debatable, because everyone is different and will get over a break up at their own pace, so getting your ex back depends entirely on how long it will take your ex to get over the break up. Don't forget though, it is not only your ex who is affected by the break up, but you as well, and you will also need time to get over the hurt and anger that you are feeling.

This could take anything from a few days, to a couple of weeks, and, in some cases, even longer. It all depends on why you broke up and what happened at the time that you decided to call it quits. Plenty of things are said and done when you have an argument that causes a break up. Okay, so these are things that you didn't mean to say, but they were, and you and your ex will need time to sort these things out.

You seen during this time that your ex has to think things over, it will give him/her the opportunity to decide whether getting back together with you is a good idea or not. It is also a time for your ex to think about the problems that were present in your relationship.

If your ex still has feelings for you, then after a time, and when he/she has thought things over carefully and decided what to do, then he/she will probably make contact with you, one way or another. Time is also necessary in getting your ex back for another reason as well.

If your ex thinks that getting back together with you is a good idea, and he/she DOES still have feelings for you, then your ex is going to start missing you after a while as well. This won't happen if your ex doesn't still love you, and only time will help your ex to decide just how he/she feels about you.

In short, getting your ex back after a break up is emotionally draining. You need plenty of patience so that you can wait for however long it takes, until you will know for sure if you will be getting back together again or not.
