Now if you did not already know, then PS3 Ylod is caused by overheating. The Playstation 3 is a well-built console but like all new generation consoles, it has issues with heat. This is because all new generation consoles are super computers. The components generate amazing graphics and powerful processing but generate a lot of heat. Microsoft and Sony have not yet overcome this problem yet.
Within the PS3, there is a large fan, thermal paste and many heat sinks. Over time, these parts start to wear down and do not deal with the heat generated as well. The components that generate the most heat in the PS3 are the GPU and CPU. That is why they have the largest heat sinks. Which if you have PS3 Ylod they will be burned right down.
The heat generated by these two parts with no heat sink will end up melting the connections on the motherboard. Therefore, after some time the connections between the GPU, CPU and motherboard will be lost.
Fixing PS3 Ylod is quite simply and you do not have to have knowledge of electronics and tools to do it. It is just a case of replacing the heat sinks with thermal paste, which you can buy for about $2 online. Yes, you will have to open the console and work your way down to the motherboard but that is very easy too.
Follow these steps to fix PS3 Ylod:
•You need a flat head and Phillips screwdriver. You may also choose to warm you motherboard with a heat gun and clean it with compressed air or a vacuum cleaner.
•Open the case (you can find lots of videos online to help you do this safely)
•Once you remove the motherboard from the case and have removed the north and south plates then use the heat gun to warm the motherboard. Move the heat gun around in a figure of eight and try not to keep it in one place for too long.
•You will see two large pads that where the heat sinks for your CPU and GPU. Apply a even amount of thermal paste to these pads and leave the console for 20 minutes.
•Carefully put the PS3 back together.
•Power on your fixed PS3
•Have fun gaming
