An astrological natal, or birth chart, is a graphic and mathematical representation of the planets in the heavens at the precise moment of your birth. Month, day, year, time, and location are factored in the determining of the rising sign, or ascendant, on the eastern horizon. The rest of the chart follows counterclockwise in a 360-degree circle, divided into twelve slices of the "pie." These slices are called houses and represent areas of your life. The twelve signs are also placed around the wheel, starting off with the rising sign. The planets are then placed in the houses where they belong based on the sign and degree of sign they occupied at your birth moment.

With the growing need for nurses in the US, government and private sources have made available a large number of nursing grants including nursing grants for minorities; that is, Hispanic, African American, Asian American, and Native American students. Particularly targeted are minority women students. Grants generally differ from scholarships because the funds are awarded based more on financial need or underrepresented student populations than exceptional academic achievement or test scores. Grant funds often are used for student expenses incurred besides tuition. Scholarships often are earmarked specifically for tuition and are more strongly based on academic excellence and SAT's; however, the distinction is often blurred so the terms grants and scholarships are often interchangeable.

At age three, before learning to read, I heard my parents talk about the family who lived next to us in our cookie-cutter suburban development in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. I thought they were our "next store" neighbors. As I learned the alphabet and meanings of words, I asked my mother what the neighbor's sold at their store. I learned that I had, of course, misheard.

My students have told me often that in the upper elementary school years, 4th or 5th grade, they started to learn Algebra. Usually, this memory evokes shudders of pain. Some explain that they never really "got the hang of Algebra", and that it looks like "just a bunch of letters, numbers, and mixed-up rules" jumbled together. This has been a common discussion over the years with students who somehow got moved on from the comfortable levels of Arithmetic into the strange world of Algebra before they were really ready for it. How young is too young for us to teach our students algebraic concepts?
